Discovering The Waters Of Bead Shopping On The Web: Several Important Considerations
When you buy beads online, you run the risk of not getting exactly what you thought . Not to say that a company is trying to scan you, but they're going to present to you the greatest version of that product they have, and what you get may fall short of that.
This isn't a new concept. We are used to it in other areas of ads. That hamburger on the billboard looks better than the one they hand me in the drive thru. But I don't think anything off that. For some reason, when I started ordering my jewelry materials this was a surprise to me.
Lighting. There's more involved in photographing something that a camera with flash. Especially when capturing something very small. The lighting for this tiny object has to be perfect, allowing you to see excellent colors and shine, while not making plenty of dark shadows. The thing is, once in your possession, and without all that lighting, things could look very different. That deep garnet red now looks black, and the silver flecks in that navy piece can't even be seen in normal light. I tell you this just to make you aware of a number of the differences when you buy beads online.
Size. Most of the beads are sized in millimeters. In and of themselves those are quite tiny. But when you think that the average finger is thirteen millimeters wide, than a 6 mm stone might be too large. Get a sense of what those sizes mean in real-life. The advertisement you are looking at likely has the image blown up, and nothing else there for a frame of reference as to size. You might even take a ruler with you to a store that sells beads, only to get a familiarity with the topic.
Patterns. You might be considering a wonderful tiger eye bead. And you want a whole strand of them. Well, not every bead on the strand will look exactly like the picture. Patterns and pigment might change from bead to bead. Now in my opinion, that's what you want. That's what makes a piece exceptional and so valuable. But the first time you buy beads online, this may come as a shock.
Some Of The Size And Shapes Of Bead Work Projects Beadwork, quite literally, is anything made with beads of any type. What first comes to mind is jewelry, and maybe second is adornments on clothing.
